Shorashim (Roots) in the Forest

Ready for a week filled with wonder, wild play, and Jewish magic?

This joyful forest camp for rising 1st - 6th graders is where Jewish tradition meets nature adventures, creativity, and community. Each day, campers will sing, explore, build, craft, and play their way through a week of discovery grounded in Jewish values, and rooted in the natural world.

Time: 9am - 3pm
Ages: 6-12
Cost: $300 + $25 materials

Wild Ones 1

Forest exploration day camps for kids

Join us in the forest to discover the natural world through engaging hands-on activities including games, crafts, and free play. We will spend each day investigating a different topic and immersing ourselves into the wild through structured and unstructured exploration. From the trees to the river, there is much to be discovered!

Time: 9am - 3pm
Ages: 7-12
Cost: $300 + $25 materials

Day 1 • Plants

From towering bigleaf maple trees to small buttercup flowers, our beautiful forests are full of unique plants that play a crucial role in many ecosystems. We will explore the complex world of plants through games, art, and hands-on investigation.
Day 2 • Predator and Prey

Explore the complex relationships between a predator and its prey. Ranging from a spider and flea to a fox and vole, predators are built with specific qualities to enhance their hunting abilities while prey have instincts crucial to their survival.
Day 3 • Bushcraft

Come discover essential skills learned by our ancestors who used the natural materials around them to live. Learn to use natural materials, build shelter, tie knots, and other self-reliance skills.
Day 4 • Habitats

From a tree stump to the roaring river, habitats surround the forest and are teeming with life. Come and investigate the hidden habitats in the woods by investigating the critters that live here, how they use their surroundings to survive, and other key elements to a successful habitat.
Day 5 • Water

We are very fortunate to have the Mary’s River run through the beautiful land for us to enjoy. Come explore the river and investigate the plants and animals that live there, learn to use water for art, and enjoy wading and splashing.

Forest exploration day camps for kids

Come explore the wonders of the forest with us through interactive, hands-on experiences like games, creative projects, and open-ended play. Each day, we’ll dive into a new theme, learning about the natural world through both guided activities and free exploration. Investigate themes from animals to astronomy as we immerse ourselves in nature each day!

Day 1 • Astronomy

Come take a tour of the galaxy as we explore the moon, the planets, stars beyond the solar system, and more. Learn about the unique properties of the Milky Way Galaxy, the mythologies of the constellations, and more celestial objects beyond Earth.
Day 2 • Insects

Join us as we explore some of the smallest creatures and their crucial role in the forest. Investigate how insects make their nests, the transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly, and other engaging activities and games that dive into the world of insects.
Day 3 • Bushcraft

Explore the essential skills our ancestors used to live off the land. Learn to build a fire with natural materials, construct shelters, and practice other hands-on skills that promote self-reliance and confidence in the outdoors.
Day 4 • Trees

Trees are complex structures that provide key resources for a thriving ecosystem. They create homes for animals, food for bugs, shade from the Sun, and oxygen to breathe. Come and explore these majestic systems through interactive activities, crafts, and games.
Day 5 • Water

Water is essential for all living things to survive. Come explore part of the Mary’s River found on the Philomath Frolic and Rodeo property through wading and splashing, small boat making, and investigating the creatures that live under the surface.

Step into the forest with us and experience nature through exciting, hands-on activities like games, art projects, and imaginative free play. Each day will highlight a new focus as we explore the outdoors through a mix of guided learning and independent discovery. Uncover the hidden wonders of the forest with us!

Day 1 • Plants

Oregon has many beautiful plants that give it an abundance of color and life. Come and investigate the anatomy of leaves, dive into the complex root system of a simple plant, and discover the mysterious properties of fungi. Engage with the world of plants through hands-on activities, art, and games.
Day 2 • Birds

From a robin to an eagle, birds of all sizes have essential skills that make them unique to their habitat. Come and investigate familiar birds found in Oregon, and learn how their flight, songs, and homes are all key parts of a dynamic ecosystem.
Day 3 • Bushcraft

Come learn the essential skills our ancestors used to survive using the natural materials around them. Practice building fires, constructing shelters, navigating signs of the forest, and developing other hands-on self-reliance skills.
Day 4 • Elements of the Earth

The land we call home is shaped by fascinating science that affects geology, the weather, and the hills and valleys all around. Come get hands-on experience learning and creating with the elements and land formations that make up the Earth. We will collect and mold clay, investigate rocks and erosion, and harvest edible snacks that the forest has provided.
Day 5 • Water

Come and enjoy the beautiful Mary’s River that runs through the forest. From a rain drop to the ocean, water is intertwined with all life in some form. Explore how water interacts with the world through interactive activities, art, and splashing and wading.
